Brigantine is a San Diego seafood restaurant group that dates to 1969, and its Poway location on Poway Road has been open since 1993. The two dishes the restaurant puts forward first are its award-winning fish tacos and a marinated grilled swordfish that it calls its best seller. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. every night, running to 8:30 p.m. most nights and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday a brunch runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The oyster bar and lounge keeps serving straight through the afternoon, which makes it the easy choice if you arrive between lunch and dinner. Happy hour is lounge only and starts at 3 p.m.: until close on Monday, 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Sunday, and not at all on Saturday.
For groups, the Nautilus Room has a fireplace and a screen for presentations and seats up to 40. With its sliding doors opened to the dining room and patio it holds about 65. Reservations, private events and takeout orders are all handled through their website.
Camel Valley Lavender, at a camel dairy in Ramona, is about 18 miles northeast, roughly 35 minutes by Poway Road and Highway 67. Its fields open for picking on summer weekends, so a weekend lunch in Poway followed by an afternoon in the lavender fits well.
