About Chateau Morrisette
Chateau Morrisette sits just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near milepost 171.5 in Floyd County. William, Nancy and David Morrisette planted the first vines here in 1978, and over the next 20 years the family gathered about 1,000 acres of mountain land; David was the first winemaker. Dogs run through the whole place, from the dog-on-a-bicycle logo and the Black Dog wine to the big, friendly resident dogs that greet visitors.
The list is wide: dry reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Petit Verdot and the Archival blend; whites including Viognier, Petit Manseng, Vidal Blanc and several Chardonnays; and sweeter bottles like Sweet Mountain Laurel, Blackberry and Sweet Mountain Apple. The state wine listing shows seasonal hours of Monday through Thursday 11 to 5, Friday 11 to 6, Saturday 11 to 7 and Sunday noon to 5, with closures around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
Beyond the tasting room there's a wine shop and an on-site restaurant, and the winery has hosted weddings for more than 40 years. The events calendar repeats through the year with the Black Dog Concert series, Music Bingo and Ladies Night, and most events are family-friendly, with sidewalk chalk, bubbles and coloring set out for kids.
Carroll County Lavender Company, a working lavender farm with u-pick and field trails near Hillsville, is about 40 minutes west, so a summer day can take in both.
