About Distillerie Aroma'Plantes
Distillerie Aroma'Plantes stands on the Route du Mont Ventoux just outside Sault, on the high plateau where much of Provence's lavender is grown. The same family has run it for more than five generations, and Guillaume and Magali now lead it. The farm and everything it makes have been certified organic since 1978, and the distillery works with about 40 aromatic plants grown in the area, lavender first among them.
The site is open every day of the year except January 1 and December 25. Several spaces are free to walk into: the Lavandoscope, the Galerie du temps, the Plantothèque plant collection, the outdoor discovery trail, the Aromatic' Bar and the shop. The distillery itself can be seen on a commented visit. Families can book soap-making workshops for children and adults, and the farm also runs lavender outings and a spindle-making workshop, where you weave lavender stems into a small keepsake.
Everything in the shop comes out of the farm's own lab, which turns its oils and plant extracts into cosmetics and soaps. Groups and school classes have their own visit program. If you are planning around the bloom, the farm streams a webcam of its lavender fields on their website, which is a handy way to check the color before driving up to Sault.
Sault sits about an hour's drive east of Carpentras by mountain road, and the farm sits on the road that climbs to the summit of Mont Ventoux, so it fits well with a drive over the mountain or a loop through the lavender fields of the Albion plateau.
