About Farmers' Welsh Lavender
FARMERS' Welsh Lavender is a small farm about 1,100 feet up in the hills north of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons), reached by a lane off the B4520 some 4.5 miles south of Builth Wells. The lavender goes into the farm's own body care range of creams, balms, washes and scrubs, and there is also a gift shop in Hay-on-Wye.
Blue first shows in late June, and July and August are the best months to see the fields in flower. A few rows of Folgate are cut around mid-July for the Calm Balm, while the main crop, Grosso, is distilled from late July through August. In July and August the farm opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, with booking required; adults pay £7 and children £5. From September to June it opens Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, with no booking needed, at £5 for adults and £3 for children.
Entry covers wandering the fields, picnicking and wild swimming in the pond, and a self-guided map takes in the fields, gardens and distillery. The café serves tea, coffee, cake, beer and wine, and the shop carries the full FARMERS' range. A Nordic sauna with a panoramic window can be booked any day of the year, and a converted truck offers glamping under dark skies. Visiting only the shop and café is free.
The Felin Fach Griffin is about 20 minutes south toward Brecon for a meal after your visit.
