About The Felin Fach Griffin

The Felin Fach Griffin is a dining pub with rooms in the village of Felin Fach, between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons and within easy reach of Hay-on-Wye. It opens all year and is part of a small group with two sister inns in Cornwall. The cooking aims to be simple but carefully done, built on the Welsh larder.

The supper menu is short and changes most days depending on what suppliers bring to the kitchen door: fish from Cornwall, meat from the lowland hills, and greens from the pub's own garden and nearby Penpont. Recent dishes have included venison tartare with pickled walnut, cod with romesco, and ribeye with peppercorn sauce. Sunday lunch, as listed in October 2026, is £40 for two courses or £48 for three, with roasts of beef, lamb or pork and a meat-free pithivier, and menus mark gluten-free, dairy-free and plant-based dishes.

Upstairs are eight en suite rooms, deliberately without televisions, furnished with radios, fresh flowers, homemade biscuits, Welsh blankets and local art. Breakfast is served in the library, with fruit from the kitchen garden. 2026 rates run from £185 to £295 for bed and breakfast, and dinner, bed and breakfast is offered year-round. Dogs are welcome in the bar and can stay in the bedrooms (not on the beds) for £15 a night or £25 for two or more; travel cots and Z-beds are available for children.

Farmers' Welsh Lavender, on a hill farm above Builth Wells, is about 25 minutes north on the A470, so a summer lavender visit and supper with a room here make a natural overnight trip.
