About Frederick House

Frederick House is a 20-room inn spread across five historic houses at the corner of New and Frederick streets in downtown Staunton, directly across from Mary Baldwin University and a block off the main street. Joe and Evy Harman bought the Young and Womack houses in 1983 to hold their antique collection, then added the Bowers House and opened an inn named for the corner. Around 1989 they bought the former Chamber of Commerce building for breakfast and check-in, and later added the Patrick House. Ross and Brooke bought the inn in March 2017.

Rooms range from simple overnight rooms to larger suites for longer stays. Guests can walk to the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, and the Frontier Culture Museum is a short drive away. The inn can buy discounted Blackfriars tickets for guests who call after booking, and in April it passes along a matching room discount for Shakespeare's birthday month.

A hot, homemade breakfast from a set menu is served from 7:30 to 10, with seasonal fruit and a daily bread. Free on-site parking comes with a reservation. Active and retired military guests get 10% off, rising to 20% in November.

White Oak Lavender Farm in Rockingham County is about 19 miles north, roughly a half-hour drive on I-81, so a Staunton weekend can include its gardens, butterfly house and lavender shop.
