About Inn at the Gorge

Inn at the Gorge occupies a house built between 1906 and 1908 on Eugene Street in Hood River. In 1942 Stewart E. Thomas turned it into a guest house so his wife, Fanny, would have an income while he served in the French resistance in World War II, and he did not come home. The house reopened as a bed and breakfast in 1985, just as windsurfing was taking off in the Columbia River Gorge, and the inn still shares Fanny's ghost stories as local legend.

Every guest room has a private bathroom, air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and some suites sleep four or five. Breakfast is served each morning with local ingredients, and there is locally brewed kombucha on tap. Outdoor space includes a wraparound porch, a back terrace and deck and a private backyard, along with secure storage and a hose for bikes and outdoor gear. The inn rents e-bikes, and booking a half-day rental comes with free early check-in.

Downtown restaurants, shops and breweries are within walking distance, and the inn is close to hiking, biking, windsurfing and fishing in the Gorge. Children are welcome, pets are not, and the property is smoke free. From May through October and over the winter holidays there is a two-night minimum. The inn came under new management in September and says existing reservations will be honored; requests for spring and summer 2027 are being taken by email.

Hood River Lavender Farms, with U-pick rows and Mount Hood views, is about 15 minutes from the inn, so a July stay can include a morning in the lavender.
