About Le Mas des Lavandes
Le Mas des Lavandes is a family farm in Saint-Privat-de-Champclos, in the northern Gard close to the Ardèche, now run by the third generation. It covers more than 120 hectares. Cereals and sunflowers go to the local cooperative, while the aromatic side of the farm grows lavender, lavandin, peppermint, clary sage, thyme and immortelle.
The family distills those plants on the farm and sells the essential oils in bottles at the farm, at local markets, through buyers and partly online. Because the same people grow, cut and distill every plant, it is a good place to compare oils from several herbs raised in the same fields and to ask how each one is made.
There is no guided tour program. Instead, the farm receives visitors by appointment every day of the year, so call before you drive out; French is the language spoken. Payment is by cash, check or bank transfer, with no card payment listed. The farm has parking for cars and buses and a picnic area, which makes it a practical stop for a group or for a family lunch break in the countryside of the northern Gard.
