About Mariem Lavanda

Mariem is a family farm that has grown its fields in La Alcarria for more than 60 years, across three generations; Emma and Mariano are the farmers today, carrying on what they learned from their grandfather. Their lavender fields are around Brihuega, and the business is based in the nearby village of Gajanejos.

Their tour takes about an hour and a half. A guide walks you through the fields and explains how and when the plants are set out, the farmers show their machinery and how cuttings are prepared, and you follow the flowers into the distillery to see how they become essential oil and floral water. Tours can be set up any day of the week depending on demand, and the price listed on their website (updated January 2025) is 20 € per person for groups under 10, with quotes for larger groups such as schools, clubs and retirees.

Fresh lavender is sold during July and should be ordered ahead. The farm also offers photo sessions in its own fields, where you will have the rows to yourself, and a beekeeper-for-a-day experience with the hives kept among the lavender. Their shop sells essential oil, dried flowers, floral water, sachets, pillow mist, heat packs and bunches.

Tours start in the fields at Brihuega, and you drive your own car between stops. Destilería Jardín de la Alcarria, in Brihuega itself, pairs well for a full lavender day.
