About Paglione Estate Winery
Paglione Estate Winery was the lifelong dream of Santino "Sam" Paglione, who was born in Capracotta in Italy's Apennine Mountains and came to Leamington at 13. A stonemason and builder whose company put up several well-known Essex County buildings, he designed the winery in a Tuscan style, with a clay tile roof, stone front and turret, and it opened to the public on July 19, 2013.
The wines are made in small batches from locally grown grapes with a light hand. Recent releases include Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet Sauvignon rosé, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, a sparkling wine named Josephine and a blend called Cin Cin, mostly priced around $18 to $25 a bottle.
Food is a big part of a visit. The kitchen serves antipasti platters, wood-fired pizza and handmade gelato, and tables can be reserved online. The winery hosts private events, and its Owner's Suite can be booked for an overnight stay on the property.
Serenity Lavender Farm is about 10 minutes west along County Road 50. In late June or July, see the lavender in the morning and come here for pizza and a glass of wine.
