About Wente Vineyards

Wente Vineyards on Arroyo Road in the Livermore Valley, about 30 miles inland from San Francisco Bay, was founded in 1883. The winery describes itself as the oldest continuously operated, family-owned winery in the country, and today it is run by women in the family. The estate is less a single tasting room than a full destination, with vineyards, a restaurant, a golf course and a concert series.

Wine starts at the Tasting Lounge, which has a walk-up bar for a quick flight, seated tastings for a slower visit, and guided tours of the estate's caves. Seated tastings and cave tours are booked on their website. Current hours and prices are listed there as well.

Food is served at The Grill on the estate, and The Course at Wente Family Vineyards offers tee times and tournaments for golfers in the group. The estate also stages a Live Music Series, with tickets for the 2026 lineup sold on their website. Wente also hosts weddings, corporate gatherings and private parties, and posts its own winery events through the year.

Wood Colony Lavender in Modesto, the nearest lavender farm in our listings, is about an hour east over the Altamont Pass. It takes booked visits, so pair it with Wente on a long day, or plan a lavender morning before an evening concert.
