Choosing Your Site

Tell the game where you grow (by ZIP code, your device's location or a sample region) and your real hardiness zone, mapped soil, weather and frost dates become your farm.

🎮 Play it in the game

Overview

Lavender Farm Simulator is meant to be played where you live. The Where will you grow lavender? window asks for your plot's location and turns the whole game into your farm: your USDA hardiness zone, your mapped soil, your real local weather and your frost dates.

It opens by itself on a new farm, from the location button in the game header (“📍 Demo farm: Rockford, MI — set your location” or “📍 Growing in …”), from the Your farm card on the Farm Map, and when you press the first field objective, Find your site.

Ways to set your location

  • ZIP code: type the five-digit U.S. ZIP code of your plot and press Check my plot →.
  • 📍 Use my current location: your browser asks permission, then the game finds your ZIP code from your position.
  • 🧭 Just exploring? Try a sample region: pick one of ten example places.
  • Keep the Great Lakes demo farm (Rockford, MI): play the demo farm without setting a location.

Your plot report

While it surveys your plot, the game looks up your USDA hardiness zone, the mapped NRCS soil for that spot, ten years of local weather and your frost dates. Then it shows a report card with a painted scene for your region and a grade: 🌟 Excellent, 👍 Good or 💪 Challenging.

  • Zone (USDA hardiness).
  • Soil texture and drainage class (for example “Sand · Well drained”).
  • Rain per year.
  • Coldest / hottest temperatures.
  • Last spring frost and first fall frost (or “None”).
  • Up to four growing notes, such as Hard winters, Wet ground, Humid summers, Long heat, Dry climate or Slow-draining soil.
  • Good starting cultivars for your zone.

Saving it

  1. Optional: open Plan for a different zone? to plan for another zone (3a to 10b). Weather still comes from your real town.
  2. Press 🌱 Grow my farm here. Or press Choose another place to start again.
  3. The game saves your place, zone, coordinates, frost dates and soil, then reloads so your local weather downloads.

Privacy

Your ZIP code stays in your farm save. The game looks it up with public zone, soil and weather services. A privacy-safe backup file removes your precise location.

Tips

  • Rockford, Michigan is only the demo farm. Wherever you set your farm, weather labels switch to your own town's name.
  • Outside the U.S.? The ZIP lookup is U.S.-only. Try a sample region, or the site analysis's Use device coordinates.
