Where the dates come from
When you set your location, the game downloads ten years of daily weather for your spot. For each year it finds the last day at or below 32°F before July (last spring frost) and the first one from July on (first fall frost). The median of those years is your frost date.
If fewer than half of the years had a frost, the game reports None. Farms located with an older one-year lookup are upgraded to the ten-year dates automatically.
Where you see them
- The plot report (last spring frost, first fall frost).
- The Your farm card on the Farm Map.
- The planting card at the top of the Lavender Field (Last frost, First frost).
Zone fallback dates
When your farm has no measured dates (or you plan with a different zone), the game uses these zone dates:
| Zone | Last frost | First frost |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | May 20 | Sep 15 |
| 4 | May 10 | Sep 25 |
| 5 | May 5 | Oct 10 |
| 6 | May 2 | Oct 20 |
| 7 | Apr 20 | Nov 1 |
| 8 | Apr 5 | Nov 15 |
| 9 | Mar 15 | Dec 10 |
| 10 | Feb 1 | Dec 31 |
What the dates control
- The spring and fall outdoor planting windows.
- The timing of each cultivar's bloom window (it shifts earlier or later with your last frost).
- Huckleberry's warnings about planting before a hard frost.
