Frost and Freeze

Frost and freezes damage actively growing lavender. The game grades each cold night into four bands and scales the damage by duration, cover and zone fit.

BandNight lowDamage to active plantsDamage to dormant plants
❄️ Frost risk33–36°F, only on a clear, calm (wind 8 mph or less), dry night40
🥶 Light freeze28–32°F122
🥶 Moderate freeze24–28°F205
🧊 Severe freeze24°F or colder309

Sustained hard freeze

If it stays at or below 28°F for 2 hours or more, the band becomes a sustained hard freeze: 4 more damage to active plants and 2 more to dormant ones.

What changes the damage

  • Protection cuts damage to a quarter: a Frost cover layer on the Farm Map, Frost Covers upgrade, or frost cover from the Diversification hub.
  • Poor zone fit makes damage 20% heavier.
  • Every hit does at least 1 damage.
  • Inspect shows the last cold band, the low, the damage and whether the plant was covered.

Other frost rules

  • A frost or freeze in today's weather pauses outdoor planting.
  • Below freezing, quality harvest and pruning are paused.
  • In a week with lows of 28°F or below, Huckleberry tells you to hold off planting; in a hard freeze, watering waits for a thaw.
  • Frozen soil (32°F or less with cold air) pauses watering.
  • Farm Time Control shows a Farm crop-weather notice naming the coldest night of the week.

Wet frost cover

Frost cover traps humidity. A week with 0.75 inch of rain or more, or three days at 85% humidity or more, under Diversification frost cover causes a mold-risk incident that costs every plant 7 health until the cover is vented.

Real-world note

Established, dormant lavender may tolerate much colder conditions depending on cultivar and site; young plants and active new growth are the ones most at risk. Don't prune right before a frost: fresh cuts are tender.
