Overview
The planting card at the top of the Lavender Field says Outdoor planting open or Outdoor planting paused, with your last and first frost dates, the farm calendar week, and Why? and Field Almanac buttons. On a brand-new farm the game will tell you to advance the week until planting season opens.
The windows

Paused even inside a window
- A frost or freeze is in today's farm weather.
- Soil temperature is below 45°F.
- Today has 0.5 inch of rain or more (or 0.2 inch on poorly drained soil, under 45%).
- The selected cultivar can't live in your zone (two or more zones outside its range).
When it's closed
- Advance the week until the window opens.
- Use a Greenhouse on the Farm Map for protected planting, once unlocked.
- Or choose 🌱 Plant anyway on the alert and take the risk.
Real-world note
Fall planting needs about two months of rooting before damaging freezes, which is why the game closes the fall window eight weeks before your first frost. Spring planting is safer in cold-winter regions.
