Overview
Health is the green bar under each plot and the Health line when you Inspect. The Farm Pulse Crop health circle is the average health of all your plants; plants under 55% count as stressed. A new plant starts at your soil score, but never below 60%.
What lowers health
| Cause | Health lost |
|---|---|
| Soil moisture under 15% or over 88% (per week) | 10 |
| Week with a 90°F high | 3 (13 if moisture is 35% or less) |
| 1 inch of rain on soil draining under 65%, no raised rows | 12 |
| Frost or freeze (active plant) | 4 to 30, plus 4 for a sustained hard freeze; cover cuts it to a quarter |
| Frost or freeze (dormant plant) | 0 to 9, plus 2 for a sustained hard freeze |
| Wind of 35 mph / 45 mph | 2 / 5 (never below 5 health) |
| Severe unresolved pest or disease case | 8 to one plant (chance each week) |
| Wet frost cover (mold risk) | 7 |
| Harvesting | 6 (not below 35) |
| Plant anyway weather in the first 3 weeks | 8 to 16, or the plant is lost |
What raises health
- Compost bays on the Farm Map: +1 per bay (up to 3) to every mapped row's plants each week.
- A Drainage swale next to a row: +2 a week; a Soil sensor or Windbreak layer on the row: +1 each.
- Dormant plants with no stress that week: +0.5.
- The Protect the perennial weekly focus: +4 to every plant.
- Pruning with the Diversification tools: +3.
When a plant is lost
If health reaches 0 during the week, the plant is removed and counted in your crop losses. Tornadoes, deer pressure on young plugs and failed Plant anyway plantings can also remove plants outright.
Tips
- Huckleberry's next step points to plots under 40% health and asks you to Inspect them; the field's plot planner flags plants under 60–70%.
- Health also sets harvest quality: a healthier plant gives more and better stems.
