Apricot Sparkles is a dwarf daylily and one of the most dependable rebloomers you can plant. Its 3-inch apricot flowers have neat, well-formed petals with ruffled edges and a fine sparkle in the sun.
Starting in early summer, it keeps producing flowers through much of the season on a clump only about 15 inches tall. That compact size makes it ideal for edging walks, the front of a border or containers.
What it looks like
Small, neatly formed flowers about 3 inches across in soft apricot orange, with ruffled petal edges, smooth sepals, a golden throat and a fine diamond-dust sparkle on the surface. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 15 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 10 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom the low clump is dotted with many small apricot flowers at once.
Growing it with lavender
Its soft apricot flowers are a warm, gentle partner at the front of a lavender bed, in the same full sun and well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Deadhead regularly and pull spent scapes to keep new buds coming, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
