About the Product

Bouquet Perfect™ Watercolour Blue has sky-blue primrose flowers that deepen to a darker blue at the centers, a soft, painterly look. The large flowers are among the biggest in its series and cover a neat, rounded plant.

The flowers are sterile, which keeps the plant blooming for a long time from early spring onward. At 5 to 8 inches tall, it suits shaded borders, woodland paths and spring containers by the door.

What it looks like

Flat, rounded flowers about 1.5 to 2 inches across have five broad, notched petals in soft sky blue, deepening to a darker blue toward the center around a small yellow eye. The flowers are packed into a dome over the foliage. Leaves are oblong, crinkled, bright green and form a low basal rosette. The plant forms a rounded mound about 5 to 8 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide. At peak bloom it is a tight bouquet of blue flowers shading light to dark.

Growing it with lavender

Primroses need shade and constant moisture, the opposite of lavender's hot, dry beds, so plant them in a shaded woodland edge, a north-facing bed or spring containers near the door.

Care

Plant in part to full shade in rich, humus-heavy soil that stays evenly moist, and keep it from drying out, especially in summer. Hardy in zones 4-8. Remove faded flowers to keep it tidy, and divide crowded clumps after bloom every few years.
