About The Bear's Den Steakhouse

The Bear's Den Steakhouse sits on East Pike, the old U.S. 40 National Road, east of Cambridge. Executive Chef Steve Wagner's kitchen works with fresh-cut steak, pork and seafood, and the restaurant says it buys from local farmers. Its dinner menu describes the steaks as proprietor-raised, grain-fed, dry-aged beef raised without hormones or antibiotics.

The steak list covers a 12-ounce ribeye, a 12-ounce New York strip, an 8-ounce filet and an 8-ounce sirloin, each with two sides and rolls, and you can add a whiskey glaze, blue cheese, garlic butter shrimp or a bone marrow and black truffle demi-glace. Beyond steak, look for the Den Burger, a prime Wagyu burger, an adobo Wagyu short rib, bacon-wrapped meatloaf, a slow-roasted tri-tip dinner and St. Louis-style ribs with peach barbecue sauce. Seafood includes pan-seared shrimp and scallops, blue crab cakes and brown sugar chipotle salmon.

Many of the supporting players are local: Ohio creamery cheeses and cheese curds, sourdough baguettes from a regional bakery, Ohio-raised chicken and pork and locally raised lamb. Pickles, chips, queso, pimento cheese and dressings are made in house, and sides run from jalapeño cheddar grits to maple-mustard carrots and Brussels sprouts with bacon. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and reservations are taken by phone.

The Farm on Bear Lane, listed as a lavender grower near Cumberland, is roughly 20 minutes southwest. Its visitor details are not confirmed, so check its website before building a day around both.
