About Gust Flower & Produce Farm
Gust Flower & Produce Farm is the summer side of the Gust family's operation, set on Rodesiler Highway in Ottawa Lake a short way from the family's fall pumpkin farm on Mulberry Road. Where the pumpkin farm is about October, this market is about July and August, when the fields are thick with vegetables and flowers.
The market opens around mid-July each summer and runs until the Sunday before Labor Day, daily from 10 a.m. until dusk; the farm posts the exact opening day on its social pages. A 10-acre U-pick field holds more than 100 varieties of vegetables and cut flowers, which you can mix and match by the peck or the jar. A separate 6-acre sunflower field has walking trails, and there is a cutting area for sunflowers to take home, since flowers on the trail itself are for looking.
The stand also sells pre-picked produce such as sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, green beans, cucumbers, melons, cabbage, broccoli, potatoes and sweet onions. Pets are not allowed, except trained service dogs. For questions, Jake Gust takes calls and texts.
Lavender Lane Farm near Milan is about 22 miles north, and both farms are at their best in July, so a summer drive can take in u-cut lavender and a basket of vegetables and flowers.
