About Hallertau Brewery & Biergarten
Hallertau is a craft brewery and beer garden on the Coatesville-Riverhead Highway, just off the Riverhead turnoff from State Highway 16. It is one of two Hallertau sites (the other is in Clevedon), and its beers are brewed with a playful take on tradition. The seasonal list in October 2026 included a German-style fest lager, a hazy pale ale, the Maximus IPA, a wheat beer, a tropical stout, a porter and a zero-alcohol XPA, and local tourism listings mention tasting paddles for trying several at once.
The kitchen is a big part of the visit. Wood-fired pizzas cost $30 each (gluten-free base $4 extra) and come with toppings like mushroom with truffle cream or salami with hot honey. Small plates run from brisket croquettes to smoked kahawai pâté, and bigger plates include a cheeseburger, sirloin and a braised lamb shoulder for two. Cocktails, local wines and alcohol-free drinks such as kombucha and spritzes are on the list too.
Hallertau is open Tuesday to Thursday 12pm–9pm, Friday 12pm–10pm, Saturday 9am–10pm and Sunday 9am–9pm, and closed on Mondays. Kids get their own dessert options, including a build-your-own sundae. For groups there are spaces for 12 to 150 people; parties of 16 or more order from set sharing menus, and large bookings pay a deposit. The brewery hosts live music and events, and outside alcohol is not allowed.
Lavender Hill is also in Riverhead, about 5 minutes away, so a lavender farm visit and an afternoon in the beer garden make an easy pairing.
