About Jersey Lavender

Jersey Lavender has grown lavender in the parish of St Brelade since 1983, when the Christie family turned a disused dairy farm into lavender fields. Still family owned, it harvests by hand and distills its own lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus and bay laurel into the essential oils used in its soaps, fragrances and home goods. The farm sits off the Rue du Pont Marquet in southwest Jersey, about 5 miles from St Helier and five minutes from the airport; staff will even mind luggage for travelers.

The farm, Sprigs Café and Sprigs Shop are open from April to mid-September, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and entry is free. Color starts to show in the last days of May; the fields bloom from early June to early August and peak from late June to early July. Hand harvesting usually starts mid to late June and is done by early August, and the distillery is busiest from mid-June to the end of August, with daily talks on how the oil is made.

Guided tours run Tuesday to Friday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and an audio tour is available. Children can try the garden swings, help feed the chickens and doves, and walk the woodland and field paths. Sprigs Café serves light lunches, cream teas and cakes, plus takeaway drinks and sandwiches. Allow at least an hour and a half.

The Poplars Tearoom at La Moye is about 2 miles away, and the beach cafés of St Brelade and St Ouen are a short drive west.
