About Lavender Oaks Farm
Lavender Oaks Farm is a 60-acre country estate less than five miles from downtown Chapel Hill, with lavender fields, woods, a boutique and two barns more than 100 years old, built with hand-hewn oak and pine beams. Robert and Karen Macdonald run the farm with sustainable methods, and Karen, a member of the North Carolina chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier, books the farm's culinary lavender lunch tours. Nine lavender varieties grow here, including the newer Phenomenal.
The fields bloom from mid-May through June; the farm expects that window again in 2027, and the fields were closed to visitors for the 2026 season. The Lavender Boutique stays open year-round, Tuesday through Thursday from 11 to 3. Check in at the main barn and staff will walk you over.
Ticketed events fill the cooler months. In fall 2026 the farm held candle-making workshops ($75, ages 12 and up) on October 25 and November 1, candlelight lavender dinners with a painting workshop on October 21 and November 22, and a holiday sip-and-shop afternoon with lavender treats on December 6. Groups of 20 or more can book a private culinary lavender lunch and learn tour year-round. The barns host weddings, private events and rentals.
Pets and smoking are not allowed, children must stay with an adult, and the pond area is closed to the public.
