About MicroBrasserie Charlevoix & Le Saint-Pub
MicroBrasserie Charlevoix began in July 1998 inside Le Saint-Pub on rue Racine, when a couple turned a home-brewing project into a pub brewhouse pouring Belgian-style beers. Bottles reached stores in 1999, the Dominus Vobiscum line followed in 2003, and since 2009 the bottled beers have been brewed at a separate plant in Baie-Saint-Paul. The company now makes close to 10,000 hectoliters a year.
The list runs to about 26 beers, from Blanche de Charlevoix and the Vache Folle ESB and imperial milk stout to the Dominus Vobiscum double and triple, NEIPA and sour styles. There are gluten-free blonde and IPA options and a non-alcoholic beer called Zéro dans lune, which helps if someone in the group isn't drinking.
Le Saint-Pub still brews beers sold only there. The kitchen uses regional products and house beer, and its signature is smoked meat marinated in beer and smoked on site, along with smoked chicken and grilled dishes. The pub is open Sunday to Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 9:30 p.m. Reservations are taken online only; if nothing is free, you can still walk in.
For bottles and cans to take home, the brewery shop is at 6 rue Paul-René Tremblay, 418 435-3877. Azulée's lavender farm sits above the town, about 10 minutes away, so dinner at the pub makes a natural end to a lavender day.
