About Moore Acres Lavender Farm
Moore Acres is a young family homestead outside Girard, started by a family who moved from California to Illinois for a slower life. They began raising chickens in 2022; the flock is now 36 hens, including Easter Eggers, Barred Rocks, Marans and Buff Orpingtons, and in 2026 they raised their first turkeys. The property is a certified wildlife habitat, and the family uses sunflowers, native grasses and deep-rooted herbs to rebuild the soil before and after planting.
Lavender here is just getting started. The family describes its lavender work as being in the very first stages, with Phenomenal, a hardy lavandin they plan to use for essential oil, and a limited amount of the English variety Hidcote listed for spring 2026. Hidcote is meant for culinary goods such as lavender honey, sugar and syrup, and they hope to distill oil on the farm.
For now the draw is the farm stand on Carlinville Cutoff Road, which the family says is open seven days a week, with eggs restocked every Friday. The eggs come in light blue, sage green, cream and brown, with the odd speckled one. The shelves also hold goat's-milk soaps such as Heritage Lavender and Farmstead Mint, a tallow face soap with raw honey and turmeric, tallow balm, whipped tallow lotion in lavender, geranium or unscented, lip balms and a tractor-shaped bath bomb; the mix changes with the season.
The family also sells at Carlinville Market Days on the downtown square and set up at Broom Orchard's Apple Festival (September 26-27, 2026) and Pumpkin Festival (October 11, 2026) in Carlinville, about 20 minutes south, which makes a natural fall pairing.
