About Peifer Orchards

Peifer Orchards began in 1994 when the Peifer family planted a few apple and peach trees outside Yellow Springs as a hobby. Ten years later they moved to their current spot on Route 68, and the orchard has grown to more than 3,000 fruit trees along with berries and pumpkins. John Peifer runs the market with his daughter Emma Burns and her husband Sam.

The farm market is open seasonally from June through December. In a normal year it carries around 25 apple varieties, and the orchard posts a weekly crop report listing what is in. Other shelves hold fresh-pressed cider, baked goods, locally grown produce, local honey and Ohio maple syrup, and the Orchard House gift shop sits alongside.

Picking options change with the year, so check before you go. In 2026 a late spring freeze damaged the apple crop, so there is no apple U-pick this fall; the remaining apples go to the market and the cider. Berry picking sold out for 2026. Sunflower picking runs Friday through Sunday, and the pumpkin patch opened October 3, 2026, for weekend picking, with pre-picked pumpkins at the market every day. Farm entry for picking is $1 per person.

Sunset Ridge Lavender Farm near Enon is only a few miles to the northwest, about 15 minutes by car, which makes these two easy to combine on one outing.

What to do

  • Pick a carving pumpkin on fall weekends (from Oct. 3 in 2026)
