About Saunderskill Farms

Saunderskill Farms works Rondout Creek bottomland in Accord that has been farmed without a break since 1680. Peter Stuyvesant granted the original 300 acres to Lieutenant Hendrick J. Schoonmaker in 1663, the farm takes its name from a creek that runs through it, and the Schoonmaker family still runs it, with Jennifer and Ryan now managing the market. The U.S. Department of Agriculture gave the farm its rare Tricentennial Award.

The market opens in early April, and spring and early summer bring strawberries, asparagus and greenhouse tomatoes. Apple picking starts Labor Day weekend and can run into mid-November, with 10 varieties sold by the peck or half bushel. Fall adds pick-your-own pumpkins and flowers, a free corn maze to walk after picking and free hayrides on weekends. Columbus Day weekend brings an antique tractor pull, held on October 11 in 2026.

The bakery opens at 8 a.m. with apple cider donuts made from local cider (plain, cinnamon sugar or powdered), along with muffins, scones, breads and bialys. Fruit pies are baked daily and sold whole or by the slice, from Five Fruit and Peachberry to Caramel Apple Walnut, and many are vegan. The market also carries local produce, groceries, soups and ready-made lunches.

The farm sits close to the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park. Lavender Fields at Maxwell Farm in Delhi, the nearest lavender farm on our list, is about an hour and 20 minutes northwest by way of Route 28, a better fit for a separate Catskills day.
