About The Carter House

The Carter House is a bed and breakfast in a heritage home built around 1898 on Main Street in Kagawong, a small village on Manitoulin Island's North Channel shore. Hosts Jason and Kelly Thibault renovated the guest rooms, each with a queen bed and a private ensuite, and kept the wraparound veranda, mature trees and white picket fence. It is an adults-only property for guests 19 and over, unless one party books the whole inn.

On the west side of the property, four custom-painted teepees offer a more outdoorsy stay, with queen beds, a kitchenette, barbecues, picnic tables and a shared shower house. Breakfast is included for everyone: coffee, tea, juice and pastries are out early, and a gourmet breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 am in the dining room or on the porch, with an earlier meal possible if you have early plans on the island.

From the door you can walk to Bridal Veil Falls, the village shops and a sand beach on the North Channel of Lake Huron. The inn isn't licensed, but guests may bring their own wine, and hosts can arrange flowers or chocolates ahead of a special occasion.

Manitoulin Farmstead in Mindemoya, the island's lavender farm, is about 20 minutes south by island roads.
