About Tihany Lavender Field & Levendula Ház (Balaton Uplands National Park)
The Lavender House (Levendula Ház) is the Balaton Uplands National Park's visitor center on the Tihany peninsula, beside the peninsula's Inner Lake. Its interactive exhibition explains how Tihany's volcanic landscape formed and how lavender became the plant the village is known for. There is a short film about lavender with an English version, a geology section built around a geology clock, a forest room that tells the local goat's-hoof legend, and English panels throughout.
June is lavender month here. In 2026 the national park's pick-your-own lavender opened on June 18 and ran for about three weeks, Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Harvest bags cost 2,000 Ft (small) or 3,000 Ft (large) and were paid by bank card only, and picking is allowed only within this program. Lavender distilling demonstrations were held at the center in late June for 3,000 Ft per person, and the village's Lavender Month events fell on June 20–21 and June 26–28.
Outside the bloom the center still works well for families: an adventure garden with new playground equipment and a pergola, craft workshops where children make lavender wands and lavender hearts, and the Lavender Café & Shop with a souvenir corner. Groups of 15 or more can arrange visits outside the regular hours.
In 2026 the center was open daily 10 a.m.–6 p.m. from May through August, with shorter spring and autumn hours, so check the calendar before an off-season trip. Levendárium, the organic lavender farm at Dörgicse, is about half an hour west along the north shore.
