About Yooper Produce Farm and Market
Yooper Produce is the farm of Dave and Laura Marohnic, a woman- and veteran-owned operation west of Escanaba in Bark River. They started in 2012 by growing chemical-free vegetables for family and friends, added their first high tunnel in 2014, and have grown to two high tunnels, two outdoor garden areas and about 2.5 acres of fruit trees and blueberries. They describe themselves as a certified natural grower.
The farm market opened in 2025 and runs from July through mid-October. It sells the farm's vegetables along with blueberries, cherries, apples, pears and plums, plus eggs and homemade breads, jams, jellies and pickled goods. In the pick-your-own garden you harvest vegetables yourself; the farm's listing puts u-pick on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., from just after July 4 into September, until the first frost.
The farm also runs a CSA, with sign-ups opening in February and deliveries to Bark River, Escanaba, Gladstone and Soo Hill, and it sells at the Gladstone Farmers Market. Farm tours are by reservation. The market takes cash, debit and credit cards and SNAP, and participates in Senior Project Fresh and WIC.
Purple Lavender Farm is about 10 minutes away on Ramsie Lane in Bark River. Its fields open by appointment from July through September, with u-pick sessions booked on its website, so a Saturday can start in the vegetable rows here and end cutting lavender.
