About Purple Lavender Farm
Purple Lavender Farm is a working lavender farm outside Bark River, west of Escanaba in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Visitors come to cut lavender in the fields, and the farm makes its shop goods by hand with lavender it grows and with lavender and cedar essential oils it distills itself.
Visits are by appointment only, from July through September. U-pick visits are booked through their website, so plan ahead rather than driving out on the chance it is open. The farm also rents its fields for small open-air gatherings of 50 or fewer guests in two-, four- or eight-hour blocks: birthdays, showers, engagement parties, picnics, date nights, retreats and photo shoots. There is no event building yet, so groups use tents or open-air setups. Lavender stems for weddings and custom gift boxes for bridal parties can be ordered by inquiry, and classes are planned but not yet scheduled.
The shop is large for a small farm. Bath and body items include soap, lotions, body and face creams, salves, bath teas and soaks, rollers and hydrosol; the kitchen side has culinary lavender, lavender sugar cubes, finishing and baking sugars, simple syrup and cocktail picks; and for the home there are room sprays, diffuser blends, beeswax candles, sachets and fresh or dried bunches. Beard balm and beard oil round it out.
Yooper Produce, a chemical-free family farm with a market and pick-your-own vegetable gardens, is also in Bark River and an easy add-on.
