Heat and Drought

Hot weeks and dry soil both cost health. Established lavender loves heat, but a dry root zone in a 90°F week is a serious blow.

Dry soil

  • Soil moisture below 15% costs 10 health a week.
  • Below 20% the plant stops growing.
  • Sunny days and wind dry the soil every week: a little each day, more on sunny days, and extra at wind speeds of 20 and 35 mph.

Heat elsewhere in the game

  • On a day over 90°F the weather card advises against midday transplanting and hard fieldwork.
  • Real Weather Watch flags real highs of 90°F or more where you live; the weekly alert flags 95°F weeks.
  • Planting in summer outside the windows (Plant anyway) risks heat loss, worse at 82°F and 90°F, halved if the plant is kept at 50% moisture or more.
  • On a Commercial farm, each summer week has a 1-in-5 chance of losing 2 stored water to heat pressure.

Tips

  • Young plants dry out first. Huckleberry's next step points out plots under 35% moisture.
  • In a heat wave, water new plants deeply in the early morning; established lavender rarely needs it.
