Saint-Eustache and the Sainte-Dorothée corner of Laval sit just northwest of Montreal, where suburbs give way to orchards along the Rivière des Mille Îles and Lac des Deux Montagnes. Chemin Fresnière, west of Saint-Eustache, ties much of a day together: La Maison Lavande, an apple orchard and a honey farm all sit on the same country road. The old town of Saint-Eustache keeps a stone church still marked by the 1837 battle and a flour mill that has been grinding since 1762, and Oka, about 25 minutes west, has a beach, wetlands and a hillside pilgrimage trail.
Come in July for lavender. La Lavandoise in Laval runs pick-your-own from late June to late July, and La Maison Lavande's fields open from late June to mid-August, at their best in mid-July. From September into October the same roads turn to apple picking, pumpkins and cider.
