About Abbott Farms
Abbott Farms sits on Cold Springs Road outside Baldwinsville, on land the Abbott family bought in 1869 after farming nearby Hicks Road since 1851. Over the years the farm moved from dairy to grain and then, in 2007, to pick-your-own crops; the country store went up in 1993 where the old orchard once stood. Warren Abbott, who came home from Purdue in 1987, leads the farm today, and it describes itself as a fifth-generation family destination.
The picking calendar covers most of the warm season. Rhubarb usually arrives in early May and strawberries in June, grown on raised beds with straw between the rows. Blueberries follow in July and August, about five acres of sunflowers bloom in August and September at $1 a stem, and pumpkins, priced by size, fill September and October. Apple picking opened August 17 in 2026 and runs into November, with varieties such as RubyFrost, SnapDragon, Crispin, Jonagold, Fuji and Empire. The farm hands out clean picking containers and does not allow outside ones.
The country store and café serve breakfast, lunch, coffee and homemade meals, and the bakery turns out cookies, twists and gluten-free cookies; fall adds apple cider donuts, cider and fritters. Fall festival weekends bring a corn maze, wagon rides, face painting and pony rides, and the Farm Yard Fun Zone has giant slides and a farm-themed obstacle course for ages 3 and up with a wristband. Abbott's Animal Arc petting area is open whenever the farm is, and the calendar includes a strawberry festival weekend, pumpkin hunts, birthday parties, showers and weddings.
Ol'Factory Lavender & Herb Farm in Red Creek is about 40 minutes northwest toward Lake Ontario. Its July lavender festival falls in blueberry season here, so a summer day can combine berry picking with a walk through the lavender.
