About Montezuma Winery Finger Lakes
Montezuma Winery sits on U.S. Route 20 at the top of Cayuga Lake, about two minutes from the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. The Martin family started out making mead at Martin's Honey Farm & Meadery in a garage in Sterling, New York, and moved to Seneca Falls in 2001. Mead is still on the list next to grape wines such as Gewürztraminer and Lemberger, a wine from the new Monarch grape, and spirits from the Hidden Marsh Distillery on the same property. A larger tasting room with a longer bar, more indoor seating and a bigger gift shop opened in December 2024.
Wine tastings start at $10 for six samples plus a featured sip of the month, and spirit tastings start at $6 for three Hidden Marsh samples. A $15 flight mixes four pours of wine and cocktails with a taste of homemade fudge. Seasonal wine slushies, cocktails and mocktails are also served, and the tasting bar closes 15 minutes before the winery does.
A kitchen serves a menu Wednesday through Sunday afternoons, with Friday service running into the evening, and the shop sells local cheese, snacks and fudge. The winery lists itself as family friendly and pet friendly. On fall Fridays in 2026 (October 16 through November 20) Tunes & Tots nights bring live local music and loaded tater tots from 5 to 8 p.m. Groups of 12 or more are asked to call ahead.
Ol'Factory Lavender & Herb Farm in Red Creek, near Lake Ontario, is roughly 35 minutes north, and its July lavender festival makes a good morning before an afternoon by Cayuga Lake.
