About Springside Inn
Springside Inn faces the western shore of Owasco Lake on West Lake Road outside Auburn. Its story starts in 1851, when the Rev. Samuel R. Brown bought the old Waring farm and opened a boarding school for boys, naming it for the springs on the land. Brown left in 1859 to serve as a missionary in Japan, and the building became a private home, then a summer resort under Captain John Holland in 1919, and a year-round hotel and restaurant in the 1940s. Local lore ties the wooded hill behind it to the Underground Railroad. Sean and Beth Lattimore have owned it since May 1999.
Today it is mainly an inn and event venue. Seven guest rooms on the second and third floors each have a private bath, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and continental breakfast; several are kings with clawfoot or whirlpool tubs, and two have kitchenettes. Next door, Holland House is a three-bedroom private home for up to 12 people with a full kitchen and a three-night minimum.
The daily public restaurant closed in 2023, but the inn opens to the public a couple of times a month for events. Fall 2026 brought Neighborhood Night dinners on October 21 and 28, a Thanksgiving dinner on November 26 and a brunch buffet with Santa on December 6, and the inn also hosts clambakes, holiday dinners, weddings, rehearsal dinners and showers.
Ol'Factory Lavender & Herb Farm in Red Creek is about 45 minutes north near Lake Ontario, so a night on Owasco Lake pairs well with its July lavender festival.
