About Sheldrake Point Winery

Sheldrake Point Winery has farmed a 60-acre estate vineyard on the western shore of Cayuga Lake since 1997. It runs down to the water, with a 400-foot beach and a gravel path from the dock up to the tasting room. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Gamay Noir and Cabernet Franc are among its wines.

A custom flight of any five wines costs $15 per person, and wine is also sold by the glass, half-glass and bottle to enjoy on the lawn or veranda. On Fridays and Saturdays the Vintage Room offers a $50 seated tasting with local cheeses at 11 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. for guests 21 and older, booked and paid ahead. Tables are otherwise first come, first served, and groups larger than six must call ahead. The tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m., until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and it closes on major holidays.

The Vine at Sheldrake, the winery's bistro, serves light fare, shareable snacks and flatbreads at lunch Wednesday through Monday and dinner Friday through Sunday. Wednesday nights in summer bring barbecue and live music until 8 p.m., and winemaker's dinners and vineyard walks fill the fall calendar. Families are welcome if children stay with their parents, and leashed dogs are allowed outdoors and at standing bars, not in the bistro. Boaters can tie up at one of eight slips for vessels up to 35 feet.

Ol'Factory Lavender & Herb Farm in Red Creek is about 50 minutes north through Seneca Falls, a fitting pairing during its July lavender festival.
