About Altitude Brewing

Altitude Brewing makes its beer on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, next to the marina on the Frankton Arm Walk. Its motto sums it up as adventures, tall stories and good beer, and the tap room is a no-frills space where the dress code is come as you are.

There are no formal brewery tours, but the brewing floor is in view from the tap room, so you can see where your glass was made while you drink it. Seating is first come, first served, as the tap room does not take reservations. It is open Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm and Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 10pm, and it stays open on public holidays without a surcharge. Over the holidays it closes 24–26 December and 1 January.

Food comes from two food trucks parked on site that keep tap room hours, one from Friday to Tuesday and one from Wednesday to Sunday, so there is something to eat every day. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Families do come, but the brewery points out that it is a working site bordered by roads, so children need to stay close rather than roam. There is a baby changing table in the accessible bathroom.

Ben Lomond Lavender is about 15 minutes away in the Wakatipu Basin. A booked walk through the lavender rows and a late lunch by the lake here make a relaxed afternoon, and the lakeside walking path is right outside the door.
