About Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen
Mora Wines & Artisan Kitchen sits on the Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road, a few minutes from Arrowtown, and pairs a cellar door with a restaurant open from breakfast. The wines, under the Mora and RUA labels, focus on pinot noir, pinot gris and chardonnay from the Kolo, Eden and Vale vineyards in the Pisa and Bannockburn subregions, with rosé and sparkling as well.
The cellar door is open daily from 10am to 5pm. The standard guided tasting is $25 per person for five wines from the Central Otago and Single Site series and takes 30–45 minutes. Booking ahead is recommended, though walk-ins are welcome when there is room. Small groups of up to eight are welcome, and private tastings can be arranged with the cellar door team. You must be 18 or older to taste or buy wine.
The Artisan Kitchen opens every day from 9am to 5pm for breakfast and lunch, and bookings are essential. Chef John Pickens cooks from scratch with seasonal Central Otago and South Island produce, and the menus include vegetarian lunch, grazing and dessert options plus a Little People menu for kids. Wines are poured by the half glass, handy if you want to try several. A bus stop sits right outside the gates, a good option if no one wants to drive.
Ben Lomond Lavender is about 20 minutes away in the Wakatipu Basin, so a booked lavender walk and a long lunch here pair easily in summer.
