About Ben Lomond Lavender

Ben Lomond Lavender is a family farm on Malaghans Road in the Wakatipu Valley, about a 10-minute drive from either Queenstown or Arrowtown, at roughly 300 meters above sea level. The Manners Wood family has owned the land since 1978, and Shane planted the first lavender field in 1998. The farm and garden have about doubled in size since then.

Two oil-producing lavenders grow here, Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula x intermedia, both grown organically. Their flowering is staggered, so the color typically runs from mid-December to the end of March, peaking in January and February. The oil is distilled on site soon after harvest and blended into the farm's own product range, sold in the gift shop.

Visits are by appointment only from mid-October to April. Email to book, or phone or text for a visit within the next 24 hours. Plan on 30 to 60 minutes to walk the rows and gardens. Entry is $10 per adult and children are free. There is no café, no food or drink for sale and no farm animals, so this is a quiet stop for the fields, the views and the shop. Personal photos are welcome, but professional shoots carry a fee and drones are not allowed. The farm also hosts small events and wedding ceremonies.

Arrowtown is about 10 minutes away, an easy way to add lunch and a stroll to the visit.
