About Finchingfield Lavender
Finchingfield Lavender is part of Finchingfield Camping, a 9-acre site at Howe Street outside the Essex village of Finchingfield. Rows of hand-planted lavender, all the lavandin variety 'Grosso', share the field with a self-seeded wildflower meadow of native orchids, ox-eye daisies, cornflowers and poppies, with campsite pitches set among mown paths.
The wildflower meadow comes into flower from mid-May, and the lavender usually blooms from early July to mid-August, sometimes holding color into September depending on the weather. Visits are by ticket only, with limited numbers each day to keep the field calm, and should be pre-booked online; tickets for the 2026 season went on sale in March. Pick-your-own can be booked ahead or bought on the day, and scissors, a bag and a bucket are provided along with tips on the variety.
A small café sells hot and cold drinks, cakes and savory bakes delivered fresh each morning from local suppliers, with indoor and outdoor seating. Afternoon tea picnic boxes can be pre-ordered up to 48 hours before your visit, but bringing your own picnic is no longer allowed. The farm also runs yoga among the lavender and wreath-making workshops, and offers camping and glamping. Dogs are not allowed, as the site is a no-dog campsite with free-roaming chickens, ducks and geese.
