About Mentley Farm Lavender

Mentley Farm Lavender is a young lavender field at Great Munden, about two minutes off the A10 near Puckeridge. Planting began in spring 2021, with the last rows due in by autumn 2026. The field holds three main varieties, with 19 more grown in a separate allotment; names grown here include Hidcote, Munstead, Folgate, Maillette and the white lavandin Edelweiss. The farm distills its own lavender oil and hydrosol in its Still Room.

The field opens on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm through June, July and August. In 2026 it opened on 20 June and closed for the season on 22 August. Entry was £3 for adults and £1 for school-age children, with no booking needed, and pick-your-own cost £5, with scissors and bands provided. Parking is free, there are toilets, and the field is wheelchair accessible when dry.

Hot drinks and homemade cake are served on open days, and well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. The Yard Store opens on Fridays in April and May, or by appointment, for gifts, dried bunches and lavender and elderflower cordial. Small workshops of up to six people cover steam distillation, basketry, aromatherapy and wreath making in the field, and there are yoga sessions in season.

Pearce's Farmshop and Cafe in Buntingford is about 10 minutes north on the A10.
