About Pearce's Farmshop & Cafe
Pearce's is a family-run farm shop at Hamels Mead, beside the A10 near Buntingford. The family has grown strawberries and raspberries here since 1978 and started selling their own fruit and vegetables from a shed in the field in 1982. Today the shop carries fresh local produce and fine foods, with an in-house butchery, Bridget B's, for steaks and special cuts, a fishmonger counter, local beers, wines and spirits, and a gift room.
The farm year still shapes what's on the shelves. Asparagus is cut in May and June, summer brings strawberries and cut flowers such as delphiniums, cosmos, larkspur and cornflowers, and October fills the front of the shop with pumpkins, squash and ornamental gourds. A strawberry pick-your-own field opens in summer when the crop allows; in 2026 hot weather cut the crop short and it closed early, though homegrown strawberries were sold in the shop while they lasted.
The café, opened in 2010, has floor-to-ceiling windows over the meadows and serves home-cooked breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea; it has won several local awards. Afternoon tea vouchers and made-to-order hampers make it a popular gift stop. Around Halloween the farm runs family activities, including children's electric Land Rover rides, laser clay shooting and face painting, with no booking needed. The shop, butchery and fishmonger are open 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 4pm on Sunday.
Hitchin Lavender at Ickleford is about 25 minutes west across country, so a summer day can combine the lavender fields with lunch here.
