About Fromagerie La Station

Fromagerie La Station makes farmstead cheese from the organic milk of its own cows, which graze on organic pasture, and describes itself as the work of four generations of farmers. The cheeses include Alfred Le Fermier, Comtomme, Chemin du Brûlé and Chemin Hatley, plus a Raclette de Compton (also made with pepper) and a Fondue de Compton.

The self-guided visit is free, runs year-round during shop hours and needs no reservation. Inside the discovery space you walk through an immersive cellar room, a scent organ, three aging rooms and an aging robot that turns the wheels; part of the route is outdoors. A large window looks onto the cheese-making room, though production is not guaranteed at any given time. The cows are in the fields from mid-May to mid-October; in winter they stay in the barn, which is closed to visitors for biosecurity. Guided tours run on set dates in season and are booked through their website.

Cheese tastings at the counter are free, and a grilled cheese menu is served from opening to closing without reservations, along with espresso. In season there is a terrace looking out over the countryside. The shop is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., holidays included, and closes only on December 25 and January 1.

Bleu Lavande in Magog is about 30 minutes west, so La Station makes a good lunch stop on a lavender day in the Eastern Townships.
