About Vignoble Le Cep d'Argent

Le Cep d'Argent is one of the older names in Quebec wine. Its first vines were planted in 1985, wine followed in 1987, and the vineyard opened to visitors in 1988. Two French and four Quebec partners started it; brothers François and Jean-Paul Scieur, whose parents founded a Champagne house in Étoges, France, became its central figures, with François making the wine. The name pairs the vine with the silvery water of Lac Magog, which the 114-acre estate overlooks.

About 60,000 vines of Seyval blanc, Vidal, Frontenac blanc and gris, Frontenac noir, Maréchal Foch, Sainte-Croix and Seyval noir yield around 125,000 bottles a year. Sparkling wine is the specialty: the Sélection range, created in 2009, includes a Blanc de Blancs, a Brut Nature and a rosé, alongside still, fortified and sweet wines.

Visits come in several formats. A self-guided sparkling-wine tour with tasting needs no reservation. Other options include a cellar visit with a sommelier, a six-wine tasting paired with appetizers, coupons for tasting at your own pace, and a short sabrage lesson that ends with a bottle of bubbly in the vines. Animals are not allowed indoors. Groups of 25 or more can book a VIP sabrage visit.

The vineyard sells a joint tasting with Bleu Lavande, the lavender farm a few minutes away in Magog, which makes the pairing easy to plan.
