About Gainey Vineyard

Gainey Vineyard is the Gainey family's estate winery on Highway 246, about two minutes from downtown Santa Ynez. The family has farmed in the valley for four generations, and the winery's estate wines come from its Home Ranch, a spread of about 600 acres with old oaks, vineyard views and a barn built in 1891. A second tasting room, Evan's Ranch in Los Olivos, pours the family's Sta. Rita Hills wines.

The Santa Ynez tasting room is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A flight of Limited Selection estate wines costs $30 and takes about an hour; tastings are on the outdoor terraces when the weather allows and move into the barrel room when it does not. Reservations and walk-ins are both welcome, depending on space. Wine is also poured by the glass, and wine club members taste free for up to four people per visit.

The Vineyard View Lawn is the place to linger. Picnics are allowed there with a glass or bottle purchase, dogs are welcome on the lawn, and the tasting room sells cheese and charcuterie boards and fresh-baked demi baguettes. Live music plays on select weekend afternoons. The barn, barrel room, courtyard and terrace are also rented for weddings, parties and company retreats, and winery event tickets are sold on their website.

Clairmont Farms in Los Olivos is about 10 minutes north. Visit the lavender in the morning, then bring lunch to the Gainey lawn and taste on the terrace.
