About Kitty Knight Inn

The Kitty Knight Inn has stood above the Sassafras River at Georgetown since around 1812, and it still works as both an inn and a riverfront restaurant. Upstairs are 11 guest rooms on the second and third floors, each with its own bathroom. Several look out over the river, a handful have gas fireplaces, and Room One on the third floor has the inn's only private balcony. Room Nine connects to a small twin-bed room, which suits families or friends traveling together.

Meals are handled by Deep Blue at Kitty Knight, the restaurant on the ground floor. It serves seasonal lunch and dinner menus daily and a relaxed brunch on Sundays, with crab cakes and other coastal dishes. Its outdoor deck looks over the river, and dogs are welcome at deck tables during the season. The inn itself doesn't serve breakfast. A first-floor gift shop sells locally made arts and crafts.

The river sets the pace here. Georgetown Yacht Haven, the closest marina, has transient slips for anyone arriving by boat, and sunset boat tours on the Sassafras run from nearby. Chestertown is about 20 minutes south, and the inn offers room blocks for weddings and other group stays. Note that guest rooms are not accessible because of the historic building, though the restaurant is.

Harvey Haven Lavender Farm is the closest lavender farm on our list, roughly 20 minutes away, so an overnight here can anchor a slow Upper Shore weekend with a farm visit, a river dinner and a sunset on the deck.
