Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore is flat farm and marsh country cut by slow rivers, with Salisbury as its small city and Chesapeake Bay towns to the west. Two lavender farms sit just outside Salisbury. Wildwood Lavender Farm in Hebron has grown ten lavender cultivars without chemicals since 2016 and runs a farm stand from May through November. North of Eden Farm in Eden pairs more than 2,500 lavender plants with Nigerian Dwarf goats and a chestnut orchard, and shows visitors around by arrangement.
From either farm you are 15 to 20 minutes from Salisbury's free zoo and its 1741 Pemberton Hall, and under an hour from the bald cypress swamp at Pocomoke River State Park, the iron village at Furnace Town and the marshes of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Come in early June for the bloom festival, or in fall when the farm stand keeps weekend hours and eagles and waterfowl gather on the refuge.
Farm tours by arrangement with the farm; every visitor needs the farm's signed liability form. Workshops, farm events and open houses are announced on its website.
