About The Country House
The Country House calls itself the largest country store in the East, and it has the floor space to back that up: more than 16,000 square feet of retail space inside a 48,000-square-foot building on East Main Street in Salisbury. The building went up in the 1930s as a shirt factory, and the Delano family renovated it with help from carpenter friends after outgrowing two earlier shops.
The business started small. Norma and Mike Delano opened the first store in Snow Hill in October 1985, then moved to Salisbury, doubled the space, and finally bought the old factory. Their daughters helped build it up, and the family still runs it today. For years the store mailed catalogs five times a year; now the full line lives in the store itself.
Expect to spend a while browsing. Sections cover seasonal and Christmas decor, a coastal collection, primitive and Americana pieces, curtains and table linens, candles and potpourri, flags, door mats and lighting, plus clothing and accessories and packaged foods like soups, dips and dessert mixes. The store is about 30 minutes from Ocean City, so it works as a rainy-day stop on a beach week.
The 2026 holiday season opens with a Christmas Open House on Saturday, November 14, followed by a Black Friday and Saturday event on November 27 and 28. North of Eden Farm, a lavender and goat farm south of Salisbury, is roughly a 20-minute drive away, so a farm tour and an afternoon of shopping fit easily in one day.
