Nancy Plummer opened Moomers in April 1998 on the family's dairy farm outside Traverse City. The family still runs the business, with the next generation involved in its daily operation.

The shop makes its ice cream on site. Its collection spans more than 150 flavors, with over 20 available each day, so the selection changes between visits.
